WEST HAM UNITED 1-0 LIVERPOOL , EPL Matchday 24

January 30, 2008
WEST HAM UNITED VS LIVERPOOL
Wednesday 30 January 2008 19:45

The Reds head to Upton Park still searching for their first league win of 2008.

A run of four consecutive draws has seen us fall out of the top four and left our hopes of a maintaining a sustained title challenge in major doubt.

But Liverpool’s away record has been a major plus so far this season and we will need to reproduce the type of form that has seen us win at Villa Park and Goodison Park if we are to leave London with all three points.

Alan Curbishley’s men have already shown that they can mix it with the best at Upton Park, as Manchester United found out to their cost in December.

So it promises to be a tough test for Rafa and his team and a repeat of last season’s 2-1 victory would be the pefect respite for a year that has so begun in frustration in the Premier League.

SISSOKO SEALS JUVENTUS SWITCH

January 29, 2008
Jimmy Rice 29 January 2008
Liverpool Football Club have this afternoon confirmed the sale of Momo Sissoko to Juventus.
The Mali international is away at the African Nations but took time out for a medical and talks over personal terms.

Sissoko spent nearly three years at Anfield, arriving from Valencia in July 2005 amid comparisons with Patrick Vieira. His all-action style ensured he quickly became a fans’ favourite.

The 23-year-old was one of the star performers in the club’s FA Cup final victory over West Ham in 2006.

Two serious injuries – to his eye and shoulder – disrupted his form but there’s no doubting the quality he displayed in his first two seasons at Anfield.

Sissoko leaves the club after 86 appearances and a single goal – a 25-yard strike against Sunderland earlier this season.

LIVERPOOL 5-2 HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE ,FA Cup

January 25, 2008
LIVERPOOL VS HAVANT & WATERLOOVILLE
Saturday 26 January 2008 15:00

Liverpool v Havant and Waterlooville…

It’s a tie that sums up the magic of the FA Cup.

A non-league side, who have come through the Qualifying rounds, drawn against one of the Premier League’s heavyweights.

A team comprising a courier, a student, a plasterer and a plumber will travel to Anfield to go head-to-head with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Jamie Carragher.

It would be fair to say that 99 times out of 100 Liverpool will win comfortably.

But, as history has shown, in a one off cup tie anything can happen – that’s the FA Cup.

And that’s why Havant and Waterlooville are this year’s fairytale story.

The Hawks reached the fourth round courtesy of a 4-2 win in a replay against League One side Swansea, after they had upset the odds with a 1-1 draw at the Liberty Stadium.

It sets up another potential banana skin for Rafael Benitez’s men, who had to overcome another side hoping for an upset -Luton Town – to reach this stage.

While the Reds have suffered a number of shocks over the years they will be confident of progress and if they produce a professional performance they should have too much for the Hampshire minnows.
